Volleyball Recap: Cranston West's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

If Cranston West was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of North Smithfield last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Falcons fell just short of the Chariho Chargers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Cranston West took Chariho into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 15-13.

Ziyue Wang paced Cranston West's offense, picking up 21 kills. Wang got some help from Ashton Mak and his 41 assists. Finally, Kevin Dilone kept Cranston West's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Jaxson Vachon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chariho, getting 16 digs and four aces. Vachon is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Comolli, who had 36 assists and three aces.

With the defeat, Cranston West broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2. As for Chariho, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranston West will welcome East Greenwich at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons are facing the Avengers at the right time seeing as the Avengers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Chariho, they will challenge Westerly at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
