Baseball Recap: Hammond Central Takes a Loss

Hammond Central extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-11-1 in the process. They came up short against the Hammond Morton Governors, falling 13-3. If the Wolves were looking for revenge after losing 10-2 to the Governors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hammond Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Tiscareno, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Hammond Morton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Hammond Morton's side, David Shreve made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Shreve has posted over his last four contests. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate George, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Aiden Vibert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

Looking ahead, Hammond Central will host Hobart at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hammond Morton, they will face off against Whiting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Governors are facing the Oilers at the right time seeing as the Oilers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
