Softball Game Preview: Raleigh Lions vs. Pelahatchie Chiefs

The Raleigh Lions will challenge the Pelahatchie Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Raleigh has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Raleigh fell victim to Mize and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Pelahatchie won against Scott Central on Friday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Pelahatchie was the clear victor by a 17-8 margin over Scott Central. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.

Ava Till made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. She also tossed two walks, marking her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Pelahatchie got a massive performance out of A Butler, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Zoey Jones, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Pelahatchie and bumps their season record up to 9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Raleigh, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Raleigh took their win against Pelahatchie in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0. Will Raleigh repeat their success, or does Pelahatchie has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
