Softball Game Preview: Stringer Red Devils vs. Ethel Tigers

Stringer is a perfect 4-0 against Ethel since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Red Devils will square off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Stringer is coming into the match hot, having won their last 13 games.

Stringer is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Salem by a score of 7-3.

Madilyn Graham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Douglas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee Townsend, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Stringer hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 18 consecutive contests.

13 must be Ethel's lucky number: they beat Lumberton with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Tigers beat the Panthers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 15 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ethel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Stringer, their record is now 20-3-2.

Stringer was able to grind out a solid win over Ethel in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
