Softball Recap: Tualatin Drops Season-High Score on South Salem

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tualatin). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the South Salem Saxons a 24-0 shutout on Wednesday. While the Timberwolves didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Reese Strode made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Strode was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Madisen Garrett was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sydney Jensen, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Tualatin hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.

Tualatin is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Salem, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tualatin will host Sprague at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Salem, they will square off against Caldera at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Caldera has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something South Salem will no doubt try to take advantage of.
