The Solorio Sun Warriors will head out to take on the Evergreen Park Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Solorio is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Solorio didn't have quite enough to beat De La Salle and fell 6-5.
Solorio got a big performance out of Josiah Saucedo, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were Saucedo's first of the season. Christopher Sanchez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Evergreen Park and Thornton Fractional South have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Red Wolves. Considering the Mustangs have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Rowan Smyth made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yarim Garcia, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caleb Keyser, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Evergreen Park's record is now 8-1. As for Solorio, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Solorio hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Evergreen Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Solorio came up short against Evergreen Park when the teams last played back in May of 2019, falling 6-2. Can the Sun Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
