Basketball Game Recap: Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees vs. Caldwell Redskins

Clay-Battelle has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 63-52 to the Caldwell Redskins, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While the Cee-Bees didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Redskins 19-9 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Clay-Battelle lost on Thursday, don't look at Preston Luzader. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 44.2% of Clay-Battelle's points, marking the fifth time in a row Luzader has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Josiah Morgan, who scored 11 points.

Leading Caldwell to victory were Carter Wheeldin and Dylan Schott. Wheeldin dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, while Schott went 5-for-9 to rack up 21 points and three steals. Wheeldin is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last five games he's played. Ethan Crock was another key player, putting up six points.

Clay-Battelle's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. As for Caldwell, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

Coming up, Clay-Battelle will square off against Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Clay-Battelle likes a good challenge. Caldwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
