Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for High Point Academy

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but High Point Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Liberty Red Devils, sneaking past 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Grizzlies sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Julie Raines spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Emily Hart was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

High Point Academy pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Liberty, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: High Point Academy beat the Red Devils by a score of 12-2 later that day.
