Softball Game Preview: Garland Owls vs. Lakeview Centennial Patriots

Garland is a perfect 9-0 against Lakeview Centennial since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Garland Owls will challenge the Lakeview Centennial Patriots at 11:00 a.m. Garland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Garland's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Wylie hitters got past them. Garland came up short against Wylie on Friday, falling 17-11. The Owls' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Karmen Sanders and Mady Key did some serious damage despite the final result: Sanders went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Key went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Sanders a new career-high. Christine Porras also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Garland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 13.

Meanwhile, Lakeview Centennial lost 18-3 to Rowlett on Friday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Lakeview Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Garland, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3-1.

Everything went Garland's way against Lakeview Centennial when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Garland made off with a 21-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garland since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
