Basketball Recap: South Effingham Comes Up Short

South Effingham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 48-38 to the Statesboro Blue Devils. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-36 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, don't look at Hayden Johanson. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That was a full 42.1% of South Effingham's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kaylan Hamilton was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Leading Statesboro to victory were Kennedy Myers and Azziza Flowers. Myers dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Flowers dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Another player making a difference was Gerziya Haggray, who earned 11 points and five assists.

South Effingham's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Statesboro, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-11.

South Effingham didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-8 defeat against Bradwell Institute on the 31st. Statesboro has also already played their next game, a 66-45 win against Swainsboro on the 1st.
