Softball Recap: De Anza Wins Going Away Against Kennedy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Alhambra, De Anza was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Kennedy Eagles with a sharp 16-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Dons needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Ma'Yhana Moore and Mya Arroyo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Moore tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Arroyo struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. At bat, Moore went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Arroyo went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Moore has hit this season.

In other batting news, De Anza got a massive performance out of Riana Everetts, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Everetts has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aubrianna Garcia, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

De Anza was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

De Anza's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Kennedy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7-1 record this season.

De Anza will head out to take on Albany at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Kennedy, they will host Vallejo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
