Basketball Game Preview: Dover-Eyota Eagles vs. Pine Island Panthers

Dover-Eyota hasn't had much luck against Pine Island recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Dover-Eyota Eagles will face off against the Pine Island Panthers at 7:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Dover-Eyota is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took a 76-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Charles. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Fighting Saints are ranked 117th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Luke Meyers, who posted 22 points. The contest was his third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jace Drilling, who scored 16 points.

Meanwhile, Pine Island hadn't done well against Kasson-Mantorville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Pine Island took down Kasson-Mantorville 78-63.

Pine Island's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Dover-Eyota, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.

Dover-Eyota was taken down by Pine Island 69-36 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Dover-Eyota avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
