Softball Game Preview: Ursuline Academy Bears vs. Malden Catholic Lancers

For the second straight game, Ursuline Academy will face off against Malden Catholic. The Bears will square off against the Lancers at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Ursuline Academy has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Ursuline Academy lost 19-2 to Malden Catholic on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost three in a row.

For Malden Catholic's part, Sophia Clarke tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Lyla Hollingsworth and Emma Hollingsworth did most of the damage at the plate: Lyla fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4, while Emma went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Oneil, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Malden Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ursuline Academy only posted a batting average of .167.

Ursuline Academy now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Malden Catholic, their record is now 1-0.
