Basketball Recap: Lake County Takes a Loss

Lake County fought the good fight in their overtime match against Buena Vista on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buena Vista Demons. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Demons are ranked 129th).

When it comes to explaining why Lake County lost, don't look at Isaiah Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. The game was Martinez's third in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaren Peters, who posted eight points.

Kaden Schell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Buena Vista, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Schell is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Julian Lopez-Olsen was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Lake County dropped their record down to 5-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Buena Vista, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Lake County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-34 victory against Sheridan on the 6th. As for Buena Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 64-23 win against Ellicott on the 7th.
