Football Recap: West Central Takes Down South Newton in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, West Central rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 74-12 win over the South Newton Rebels. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by 26 points or more this season.

West Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Huber, who rushed for 87 yards and two scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes. That's the most rushing yards Huber has posted since back in August. Drea Villarreal also helped with three TDs in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 341 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to West Central's defense and their three sacks. Kamryn Sigman was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

West Central's record is now 9-1. As for South Newton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

West Central will be playing at home against Bowman Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Newton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
