Baseball Recap: Hermitage Drops Season-High Score on L.C. Bird

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Freeman, Hermitage was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the L.C. Bird Skyhawks. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sam Maxwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Jackson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Davis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Hermitage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Hermitage's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for L.C. Bird, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Hermitage and L.C. Bird could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 306th) will meet Godwin (ranked second) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, L.C. Bird will face off against Colonial Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (227 vs. 52).
