Basketball Recap: Community Charter Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Community Charter had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 77-43 loss at the hands of the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers. The Titans have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Community Charter still got an impressive performance from Edem Ladzekpo, who shot 56% from the field en route to 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Ladzekpo is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 52% in the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was David Catalan, who posted 19 points and three steals.

Sun Valley Magnet was led to victory by Jefferson Martinez and Juan Gonzalez. Martinez dropped a double-double with 31 points and ten boards, while Gonzalez scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Hernandez, who had ten assists.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Community Charter will head out to face off against Reseda at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sun Valley Magnet, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northridge Academy at 4:00 p.m. on December 1.
