Softball Game Preview: West Stanly Colts vs. Mooresville Blue Devils

The West Stanly Colts will face off against the Mooresville Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Stanly is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

West Stanly gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Central Academy as West Stanly made off with a 9-1 win. Considering the Colts have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Madi Whitley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Kennedy Austin was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Saylor Edwards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

West Stanly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Academy only posted a batting average of .087.

Meanwhile, Mooresville came up short against A.L. Brown on Tuesday, falling 8-2. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly six runs.

West Stanly pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Mooresville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
