Softball Game Preview: Wauwatosa West Trojans vs. Brookfield East Spartans

The Wauwatosa West Trojans will take on the Brookfield East Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Wauwatosa West nor Brookfield East posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Friday just wasn't the day for Wauwatosa West's offense. They lost 18-0 to Dominican on Friday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Brookfield East hadn't done well against Menomonee Falls recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Phoenix, sneaking past 2-1.

Layla Diehl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Amy Ehlinger was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Paeton Ulrich was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Brookfield East's victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1. As for Wauwatosa West, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
