Baseball Preview: St. Rita Mustangs vs. Maine South Hawks

The St. Rita Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Maine South Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when St. Rita and Montini Catholic meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Mustangs fell 10-6 to the Broncos.

Jaden Rivera was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Panozzo, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Maine South didn't have quite enough to beat Libertyville on Saturday and fell 5-4. The Hawks have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Maine South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Constantine Coines, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Coines is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

St. Rita's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Maine South, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
