Recap: Laurel Christian Lions vs. Newton County Academy Generals
The Laurel Christian Lions fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Newton County Academy Generals on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Generals. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Laurel Christian in their matchups with Newton County Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Laurel Christian saw an underclassman step up: Emma Risher scored 11 points. Raygan Gable was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Laurel Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Newton County Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Laurel Christian will head out on the road to face off against Discovery Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Discovery Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Newton County Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Sylva Bay Academy at 6:00 p.m.
