It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Alonso ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Wharton Wildcats 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Alonso got a great performance from Bryan Alonso as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Despaine, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Raymond Llanes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Alonso's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wharton, their loss dropped their record down to 19-5.

Alonso and Wharton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Ravens will square off against Sumner at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (130 vs. 273). Meanwhile, Wharton (ranked 114th) will meet Wiregrass Ranch (ranked 359th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
