Recap: Purvis Tornadoes vs. Quitman Panthers
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Purvis Tornadoes can now relate to. They were dealt a 60-32 loss at the hands of the Panthers on Monday. While losing is never fun, Purvis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Quitman is ranked 11th).
Purvis' loss came despite strong showings from Systren Eliza Elenus and Zoey Robinson. Eliza Elenus scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Robinson scored four points along with 13 rebounds and five blocks. Eliza Elenus has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.
AUDRIANA HARRIS was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals for Quitman. HARRIS has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jahyla Dubuse, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Purvis has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season. As for Quitman, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5.
Purvis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Quitman, they will square off against Raymond at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Quitman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
