Softball Recap: Lake Norman Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Lake Norman hadn't done well against Mooresville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 6-3. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Blue Devils on their field since March 29, 2022.

Charlee Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Vivian Billard was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kail Panaccione was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lake Norman has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Mooresville, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Norman will square off against A.L. Brown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wonders have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Mooresville, they will face off against Hickory Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
