Baseball Game Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Harrison Panthers

For the second straight game, Coronado will face off against Harrison. The Cougars will welcome the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Coronado duked it out with Harrison on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Panthers. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

Turner Whitney made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Coronado's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Whitney was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Case Trujillo and Raunel Lopez-Reyes did most of the damage at the plate: Trujillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBI, while Lopez-Reyes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Trujillo has posted since back in May of 2025. Oliver Freiling was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coronado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

Harrison has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Coronado, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
