Basketball Recap: Cottage Takes a Loss

Cottage had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-8 to make it four. They were outmatched by the Fulton Science Academy Mustangs and fell 98-23. The Cougars lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 66-38 score last time.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maxwell Lagan, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. That was a full 65.2% of Cottage's points, marking the fourth time in a row Lagan has posted more than a third of the team's points.

As for Fulton Science Academy, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-10. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Fulton Science Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Edney led the charge by going 14-for-20 to rack up 29 points along with six steals and five boards. Edney continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Turney, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten steals.

Coming up, Cottage will challenge Mill Springs Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cottage will be up against Mill Springs Academy's rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Fulton Science Academy, they will face off against Atlanta Classical Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
