Basketball Game Preview: Wood River Eagles vs. Nebraska Christian Eagles

The Wood River Eagles will head out to challenge the Nebraska Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wood River is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Wood River is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Ord on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Wood River had to suffer through a 73-45 loss at the hands of Ord. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Chanticleers are ranked 103rd).

Wood River's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sidney Frear, who went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds, and Lainey Paulk, who posted 13 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Courtney Dimmitt, who had seven points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Nebraska Christian earned a 57-47 win over Heartland on Tuesday.

Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Nebraska Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Wood River came out on top in a nail-biter against Nebraska Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 45-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wood River since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
