Basketball Recap: Sara Steffen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Craig over Haines

Craig suffered their closest defeat since January 18, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Haines Glacier Bears by a score of 47-45. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Glacier Bears earlier this season, when they won 46-44.

Craig lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sara Steffen, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards. She has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Patten, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 18 boards.

Even though they lost, Craig smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Craig's record now sits at 16-6. As for Haines, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.

Looking ahead, Craig and Petersburg will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. Petersburg is on an eight-game streak of home losses, and Craig a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck. Haines does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
