Basketball Recap: Challenger Comes Up Short

Challenger fought the good fight in their overtime match against Community Christian Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to the Community Christian Academy Warriors. The Firebirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 58-51.

Challenger's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braelon Roe, who posted 19 points along with eight boards and three steals. Roe has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Annis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Community Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Aiden Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 19 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carson Thomas, who had nine points and eight rebounds.

Challenger now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Community Christian Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10.

Challenger wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-55 victory against Temple Baptist on the 30th. As for Community Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-53 win against Palmetto Christian Academy on the 31st.
