The Naperville Central Redhawks will venture away from home to face off against the Lockport Porters at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Naperville Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Lockport will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Naperville Central extended their winning streak to three on Friday. Everything went the Redhawks' way against West Aurora as they made off with an 11-1 win.
Avery Miller made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Cali Lenz was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Lau, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Naperville Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lockport faced Lincoln-Way Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Porters lost 8-2 to the Knights. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Porters couldn't push the score so high this time.
Naperville Central's record is now 12-9. As for Lockport, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-9.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Naperville Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Lockport struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Naperville Central might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from Lockport when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Redhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
