Softball Game Preview: Cocoa Beach Minutemen vs. Astronaut War Eagles

Cocoa Beach is 1-9 against Astronaut since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Cocoa Beach will look to defend their home field against Astronaut at 7:15 p.m. Cocoa Beach has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cocoa Beach fell victim to Space Coast and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Vipers. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Minutemen's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Astronaut entered their tilt with Oviedo two weeks ago with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Lions.

Riley Miller made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Daisy Mixson was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Arielys Rosado was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Astronaut pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Cocoa Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cocoa Beach has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Astronaut struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
