Softball Game Preview: Weed Cougars vs. Trinity Wolves

The Weed Cougars are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Trinity Wolves at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Weed has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Weed came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-1 to Portola.

Weed saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie LaDue, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Even though they lost, Weed was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Trinity hadn't done well against Ferndale recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Trinity came out on top against Ferndale by a score of 10-7.

Brynn Sommerfeld spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hallee Prather, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Mckenna Bennett also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Weed's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Trinity, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Weed couldn't quite get it done against Trinity in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can Weed avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
