Softball Preview: Erwin Warriors vs. North Buncombe Black Hawks

Erwin is 1-9 against North Buncombe since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Black Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Erwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Erwin turned things around against T.C. Roberson on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Rams. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Rams on their field since March 29, 2022.

Jessica Varillas was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Dusty Chapman was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, North Buncombe beat Asheville 9-6 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Black Hawks.

Sadie Jo Hunter made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Jo Rice, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracelynn Fisher, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

North Buncombe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
