Basketball Recap: Alleghany Takes a Loss

Alleghany was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Starmount Rams, falling 58-37. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while the Rams are ranked 169th).

Starmount got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Molly Swaim out in front who went 5 of 8 on her way to 21 points. What's more, Swaim also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Mackinzie Cox was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Alleghany's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Starmount, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Looking ahead, Alleghany will be playing in front of their home fans against Surry Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Starmount, they are taking a road trip to take on East Wilkes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
