Softball Recap: Fort Plain Find Success

Fort Plain proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 14) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Johnstown Sir Bills 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hilltoppers have posted since May 3, 2024.

Jordon Gomez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Gomez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daija Suits, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lainie McDuffee, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

Fort Plain's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Johnstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Fort Plain will welcome Cobleskill-Richmondville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Hilltoppers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Johnstown, they will head out to square off against Schoharie at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
