Baseball Game Preview: Oakland Wildcats vs. Oakland Tech Bulldogs

Oakland is 0-10 against Oakland Tech since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Wildcats will square off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Oakland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Oakland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mare Island Tech Academy 9-7.

Ever Sauceda was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Oakland is undefeated when Sauceda posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Couraji West, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Javier Benitez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oakland Tech). They never let Leadership get on the board and left with a 31-0 win on Wednesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Oakland Tech is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Oakland, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Oakland might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Oakland Tech in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
