Softball Recap: West Rowan Starts Season with Victory on the Road

West Rowan had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the South Rowan Raiders 8-7 on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Arabelle Shulenburger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Ava Baxter was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Raney Phelps was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.

South Rowan's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Rowan will challenge Lake Norman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Rowan, they will take on Robinson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
