Softball Game Preview: Barrington Fillies/Broncos vs. Larkin Royals

Barrington has gone a perfect 3-0 against Larkin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Fillies/Broncos will head out on the road to take on the Royals at 4:45 p.m. Barrington's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Larkin's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Barrington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Lockport, who was ranked eighth at the time (Barrington was ranked 14th). The Fillies/Broncos fell just short of the Porters by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Fillies/Broncos' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Larkin hadn't done well against Batavia recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Royals came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 11-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.

Mackenzie Wemken made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kenya Ventura and Ali Herrick did most of the damage at the plate: Ventura went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Herrick went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Kaitlyn Neubert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Larkin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Larkin's record is now 15-16. As for Barrington, their loss dropped their record down to 29-3-1.

Everything went Barrington's way against Larkin when the teams last played back in April, as Barrington made off with a 15-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fillies/Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
