League recap: Roosevelt climbs in state rankings

2A-2 Region I District 2 recap September 10, 2013

Roosevelt moved up to 697 from 846 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-2 Region I District 2. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of topping Dimmitt 63-33.

Floydada took down San Jacinto Christian Academy 62-10 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Derek Coppedge and Kevin Lamae gave Roosevelt a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Coppedge threw for 342 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Lamae ran for 186 yards. Randy Welch also contributed to the rushing game with 30 yards on the ground.

Coppedge and Lamae gave Greg Poynor's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

He was 36-52 with 0 interceptions.

Coppedge put up the best numbers through the air as the Eagles bested the Bobcats. Coppedge's favorite target this week was Brendon Wright, who caught 8 passes for 97 yards.

Cash Love was the best receiver in the league this week as Tulia fell to New Deal. Love tallied 8 receptions for 135 yards. Anthony Pando helped Tulia's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 88 yards.

Lamae was the best running back in the league this week.

Roosevelt's Coppedge and Wright have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A-2 Region I District 2 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Coppedge has thrown for 601 yards this season, while Wright has 16 catches for 244 yards. The Hornets' Brandon Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 291.

The Eagles led the league in scoring this week by notching 63 points on Dimmitt. Coppedge in the win.
