Baseball Preview: Ralston Valley Mustangs vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

The Ralston Valley Mustangs will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Smoky Hill Buffaloes at 4:15 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Ralston Valley never let their opponents score. Everything went their way against Page as Ralston Valley made off with a 10-0 win. The victory was just what Ralston Valley needed coming off of a 9-1 loss in their prior game.

Winston Patterson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Marshall Strange, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Logan Madden, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Rangeview 7-0. The win was just what Smoky Hill needed coming off of an 8-1 defeat in their prior contest.

Dash Deavers was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Max Goodrich was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Ralston Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Smoky Hill, their win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Ralston Valley skirted past Smoky Hill 7-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Smoky Hill's Jackson Van Luit, who went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.
