Softball Recap: Lick-Wilmerding Tigers vs. St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots
Lick-Wilmerding had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it four. They came up short against the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pilots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 two weeks ago.
As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.
For St. Joseph Notre Dame's part, Cassandra Sanchez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Sanchez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.
In other batting news, Kat Gille was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Manzo, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
