Softball Game Preview: West Marion Trojans vs. Wesson Cobras

The West Marion Trojans will face off against the Wesson Cobras at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Marion is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand McLaurin a 16-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won three games in a row.

Izzy Pittman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caydance Brumfield, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Baylee Parrett was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Wesson got the win against Hazlehurst on Thursday by a conclusive 15-0. The Cobras haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Wesson pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for West Marion, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.

West Marion couldn't quite get it done against Wesson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
