Soccer Game Preview: Greeley West vs. Weld Central

The Greeley West Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Weld Central Rebels at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Greeley West took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Poudre by a score of 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Osiris Padilla Sanchez and Mark Griffin scored all three of Greeley West's goals, bringing their combined season tally to eight goals.

Meanwhile, Weld Central entered their tilt with Liberty Common on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 3-0 victory. Considering Weld Central have won seven contests by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Weld Central's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Greeley West, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6-3.

Everything went Greeley West's way against Weld Central in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as Greeley West made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
