Basketball Game Preview: Corvian Community Cardinals vs. Christ the King Crusaders

The Corvian Community Cardinals are taking a road trip to challenge the Christ the King Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Corvian Community has eight straight victories, Christ the King has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

It was a proper cat-fight when Corvian Community challenged Langtree Charter Academy on Tuesday. Corvian Community came out on top against Langtree Charter Academy by a score of 60-49. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Lions are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Corvian Community got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Doug Quarles III out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. What's more, Quarles III also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adrian Scott, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Corvian Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Christ the King came up short against Mountain Island Charter on Tuesday and fell 77-67.

Christ the King's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Corvian Community, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Corvian Community strolled past Christ the King when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 69-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corvian Community since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
