Baseball Game Preview: Berkeley Springs Indians vs. Robert C. Byrd Eagles

The Berkeley Springs Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Robert C. Byrd Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berkeley Springs comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Monday, Berkeley Springs came up short against Hancock and fell 7-2.

Berkeley Springs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Conner Maconaughey, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Maconaughey brought in this season.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Robert C. Byrd and Elkins had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 9-0 on Wednesday. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Ashton Shaffer and Xavier Carvelli did most of the damage at the plate: Shaffer got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Carvelli scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cooper Floyd, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Berkeley Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything went Berkeley Springs' way against Robert C. Byrd in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as Berkeley Springs made off with a 14-0 victory. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
