Softball Preview: Farwell Eagles vs. Shepherd Bluejays
The Farwell Eagles will head out to square off against the Shepherd Bluejays at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Farwell knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Shepherd likes a good challenge.
Farwell came out on top against Harrison on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run fourth inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Hornets. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Farwell got a massive performance out of Karleigh Ames, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Macie Carrow, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Farwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Shepherd fell victim to Frankenmuth and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Bluejays' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Farwell pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Shepherd, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.
Farwell might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from Shepherd when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
