Volleyball Recap: Dos Palos Falls Despite Big Games from Hailey Portillo and Lilliana Gonzales

Dos Palos suffered their biggest defeat since September 23rd on Thursday. They lost 3-0 to the Coalinga Horned Toads. The Broncos have struggled against the Horned Toads recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

While Dos Palos was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Coalinga's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Dos Palos had strong showings from Lilliana Gonzales, who had 17 digs and two aces, and Hailey Portillo, who had 19 digs and 15 assists. Gonzales has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kodi Gonzales, who had 18 digs and two assists.

Jayde Brooks was a one-woman wrecking crew For Coalinga. as she had 22 digs and five aces. That's the most digs Brooks has posted over her last six matchups. Another player making a difference was Yulissa Escalante, who had four aces and three digs.

Dos Palos' defeat dropped their record down to 13-16-1. As for Coalinga, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-11-2.
