Basketball Game Preview: West Trojans vs. La Vega Pirates

West is on a five-game streak of home wins, while La Vega is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The West Trojans will host the La Vega Pirates at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

West saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost to Keene on the road by a 61-44 margin. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Despite their loss, West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ayden Poteet, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Tacker, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, La Vega beat Glen Rose 52-46 on Friday.

La Vega has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for West, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

West was taken down by La Vega 75-42 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of La Vega's Monta Hilliard, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points and seven steals.
