Softball Game Preview: St. Marys Flying Dutch vs. Bald Eagle Area Eagles

The St. Marys Flying Dutch will take on the Bald Eagle Area Eagles on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Marys 2.1, Bald Eagle Area 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

St. Marys is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mohawk Area 4-2.

Meanwhile, Bald Eagle Area entered their tilt with Avonworth on Monday with 14 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 15. They put the hurt on the Antelopes with a sharp 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Sierra Albright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Alexa Baney and Kailey Eckert did most of the damage at the plate: Baney got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, while Eckert went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Eckert a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Habovick, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.

Bald Eagle Area pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Marys, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.
