Basketball Recap: Arvada Takes a Loss

Arvada was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by The Vanguard School Coursers 95-44. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Coursers are ranked 97th).

The Vanguard School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matty Dessalegn, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards. Dessalegn's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was JJ Wetters, who posted 18 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Arvada's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for The Vanguard School, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Arvada has already played their next match, a 46-44 loss against Lincoln on the 21st. After both having extra time off, The Vanguard School and Ellicott will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. The Vanguard School is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73.8 points per game this season.
